Life at Filix is an adventure that extends beyond the classroom! Once classes end, most students settle into their routines—lunch, homework (maybe a cozy nap if they can fit it in!), and a fun mix of sports, karate, or just some playtime before diving back into their studies. But underneath these everyday rituals lies a lively imagination filled with big dreams! When asked what they’d do on a day without rules, many would dart to the library, roam freely around the school grounds, scribble on classroom boards, or even dream of stepping into their teachers’ shoes for a bit. Some would love to show up at school at noon, phone in hand, ready to capture those perfect “aesthetic photos” of their newfound freedom!
What makes students love Filix the most? It’s all about the incredible opportunities! The micro-biology classes spark curiosity, visiting teachers motivate them, competitions challenge them, and the cool technology combined with a beloved library (even if they joke about “there being no horror books!”) makes it all worthwhile. Sure, those heavy bags and not-so-comfy uniforms can be a bit of a hassle, but they’re balanced out by the warm, fuzzy feeling of being at what truly feels like their second home.
And let’s not forget their shared love for all things spooky! Many students have a passion for horror films and stories, chatting excitedly about titles like The Nun, Annabelle, The Conjuring, and Bengali thrillers like Durgeshgorer Guptodhon. They enjoy spine-tingling podcasts and thrillers with siblings, often recounting the most exciting—and sometimes scary—scenes.
Their reading interests are just as varied! They dive into everything from The Bad Guys and Gandhi’s Ahimsa to encyclopedias, science fiction, and timeless classics like Uncle Tom’s Cabin and The Bell Jar, which they can’t wait to explore! When asked about superpowers, their imaginations soar with ideas like mind-reading, invisibility, flying, teleportation, time travel, and even extra arms to help manage exam season!
Friendship plays a big part in their lives, too. Best friends are tied together not just by secrets but also by shared adventures—moving homes, starting new schools together, or living close by. For some, adjusting to a new place has been a bit of a challenge. One student humorously describes his new home as feeling like “the Amazon Forest,” complete with a canal he lovingly calls the “Amazon River” and foxes that rummage through the trash come dawn!
Being 11 or 12 brings its own ups and downs, of course. Stress, expectations, and the occasional nudge from parents can be part of their daily lives. But joy always finds a way in—especially during festivals! Kali Puja creates excitement with its big cracker “opening ceremony,” Saraswati Puja provides a much-needed break from studies, while Durga Puja is all about laughter, sindoor plays, and those bittersweet goodbyes. And let’s not forget summer vacations filled with cousins, mangoes, and ice cream, adding the perfect touch to all the lovely memories that make childhood truly special.

The inspiring journey of Filix School started long before the first students walked through its doors in 2014. The founders, who were already community members through Nanritam’s eye hospital, recognized a genuine need for quality education in the nearby villages. Despite facing some skepticism—“Who will teach here? Who will send their children?”—they pressed on, believing that every parent, no matter their situation, wants the best for their child. That dream is what helped Filix blossom into the wonderful place it is today!
From the beginning, the mission was clear: Filix would be anything but ordinary. It aimed to be a joyful space where learning is fun, curiosity is nurtured, and top-notch practices from around the world blend seamlessly with local needs. The founders traveled to over 100 schools across Finland, Sweden, the Netherlands, and the United States, gathering fresh ideas to shape Filix’s unique teaching style. Every detail was thoughtfully designed, backed by research, and guided by a clear vision.
Today, Filix thrives on hands-on learning experiences. Its kindergarten program uses Finnish methods, and every teacher is specially trained to bring this approach to life. Even with some doubts from outsiders, the results shine through—Class 12 students, many of whom are first-generation learners, have shown that joyful learning leads to incredible achievements!
