Dearest Moon, you shone so bright tonight.
It reminded me of the bus ride here, and the stoppages en route.
I’m only here on vacation, but
I’d love to see your luminescence tomorrow too.
Dearest Moon, are you a little more dim tonight?
I love you so, but I think you could do better than that.
I’d like to see you in your full glory,
So please let me see you shine more next time!
Dearest Moon, I hope you’re fine tonight.
You’re a little less bright, and I feel a slight draft.
The tiny little fireflies in my resort
Aren’t bright enough for me to finish my tasks.
Dearest Moon, do you hate me every night?
Mama and Papa think I’m too cheeky, and you’ve hidden yourself halfway.
I thought you were my only friend, but
Do I even deserve you as one, anyway?
Dearest Moon, I miss you a lot this night.
I leave tomorrow, but you’re almost completely dark.
I won’t be able to see you back home.
Please, let me see you glow, even from afar!
Dearest Moon, I’m sorry for the past few nights.
I’ve scared you off to the heavens, it seems.
My bus is about to leave, so I’d like to say that
I only regret forcing you to show off your full shine this week.

hi, author here :3!!
firstly, SOUMILI’S PAINTING IS AWESOME–?!?! i just had to point that out.
next, just a little tidbit of info but… i actually started this poem as a very, very, angry thought in the back of my head! eventually, i decided to calm the tone down. that’s cool but, i wonder how it would’ve turned out if i kept that aggressive vibe…?
