Indus Valley World School (IVWS)

Today, our Antonym Paper Plane Soldiers carried out two fun workshops at the Indus Valley World School, Kolkata!

For classes 5, 6 and more, Chirayata Chakrabarty taught young friends how to make mini-magazines, or Zines! Students made their zines from one piece of paper alone, and followed the prompt: Tell a Story Using Sounds and Pictures Alone!

They learned what an onomatopoeia is, how to show instead of telling, and to be very, very silly. In the end, once everyone was satisfied that they had made something they love, we were left with 70 mini stories from 70 students.

Even small things hold so much power, we learned!

In the meantime, Soham Guha organised the science fiction workshop, where friends from class 8 introduced to the multifaceted, multidisciplinary, multidimensional, and multicultural world of science fiction and fantasy. Students were introduced to concepts of worldbuilding, characterisation, narrative structure, and cohesion, along with paradigms of epistemology and etymology, for topics relevant to the secondary and concurrent worlds. Alongside, the interactive session also engaged in storytelling techniques involved in many popular books, video games, TV series, and movies.

In the end, the students were satisfied with the introduction to the world of SF. They gifted us with questions, answers, examples, and exceptions – all that makes us not only human but a good person at that.
